The Plans

These were very ambitious!

To everyone on the estate,

children were the most important issue.

So, after few surveys and meetings

with residents, we had a list of projects to get on with:

  • A playgroup

  • Youth Club

  • Help in finding work

  • Training and re-training

  • Basic Skills Training

  • Intermediate Labour Market

  • Information Technology Centre

  • Dedicated Crèche Facility

  • Cyber Café

  • Improvements to the Centre

Who is paying for it?

Some of the residents got together and formed what is now known as:

  Chattenden Community Projects (CCP)

The founders of this group were the tenants who could see, that a lot of money would be needed to bring these plans to life.

Money sometimes does make you happy!!!

CCP was successful in securing funding from the Single Regeneration Budget Round 5.

This money has also attracted other funding such as UK-Online through joint bid with Medway Council. Sports England is investing by placing Sports Development Officer at Chattenden.  London & Quadrant Housing Trust is also investing in Chattenden through their regeneration project on the estate.

Who says it can't be done?

So what happened since?

  • The Squirrels Playgroup opened in May 2001

  • The local playgroup staff are undergoing NVQII training

  • The Youth Club has successful with kids, they also be getting Cyber Café!

  • Summer activities are put together by CCP with Medway Council, The Arethusa Adventure Centre in Upnor

  • The Medway Unemployed Project is helping people to find work and training

  • Basic Skills Training with Medway Adults Education Service is an ongoing project

  • Many IT and other "taster" session had helped and encouraged residents to enter into full training and work

Various other projects are in a development stage, but soon you will be able to see more details.  In the meantime, go to:
